October 10, 2018

PHOENIX–Brookdale Senior Living has invested $2.5 million into Brookdale Desert Ridge to meet the growing need of seniors living with Alzheimer’s and dementia in the Phoenix area. The senior living community expanded its dementia care services and created dozens of new jobs in the local community. Brookdale Desert Ridge is located at 4050 East Bluefield Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85032.

Scheduled for a grand reopening at 3 p.m. on Oct. 11, the project created 20 memory care apartments for people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. The senior living community feature the award-winning Clare Bridge program developed by Brookdale, the nation’s largest senior living provider. Clare Bridge focuses on providing meaningful and purposeful daily life for those living with dementia through programming and care tailored to individual interests and needs.

“When new residents move in, we learn as much as we can about their life stories,” said Juliet Holt Klinger, Brookdale’s senior director of dementia care. “We design programming that meets their interests, stirs their memories and matches their current abilities so they can be successful in their daily lives. This provides our residents with a sense of purpose and accomplishment that raises self-esteem.”

There are 5.7 million people in America living with Alzheimer’s and dementia today. The Alzheimer’s Association estimates by 2050 this figure will reach 14 million people with a cost as high as $1.1 trillion.

“With the addition of Clare Bridge, we can serve more seniors and provide a greater range of services,” said Esther DiCamillo, executive director of Brookdale Desert Ridge. “We are excited about enriching the lives of our residents with new accommodations and amenities.”
