Live Moss Wellness Walls Improve Air Quality, Productivity and Mood

January 15, 2020

HONESDALE, PA—Modern facilities managers have pressure from every angle. But with the growing demand and awareness for healthy work environments, improved productivity, and employee retention, none seems more pressing than a happy and healthy workplace.

For most facilities managers, this means they need to focus on adding amenities like “re-charge” rooms where employees can relax and become re-energized, improving indoor air quality, and also simply providing a more naturalized and desirable environment in which employees, staff, patients and/or students can improve their indoor living experience.

Verdure is the first self-sustaining LIVE moss eco-system and wellness wall. A LIVE moss wall is a great way to incorporate biophylic design into most any interior space. Using biomimicry, Moss Walls has created a very unique system that makes use of flowing water, misters, fans, and specialized lighting to create the idyllic environment for live moss. In turn this moss and mist do a rather phenomenal job of cleansing and oxygenating the air while greatly enhancing visuals and ambiance.

“Human beings now spend 90% of their time indoors, and the quality of the air we breathe and the visual and auditory experiences that make up our surroundings have been proven in many studies to have a significant impact upon our overall health and sense of well being,” said Al Benner, president, Moss Walls.

“A live moss wall delivers a significant drop in damaging 0.5 micron airborne particulate levels, and tests have shown a 225% decrease in CO2 levels. The live moss wall cleanses and revitalizes stale indoor air. The lush, vibrant green color and soothing sounds have been proven to enhance mood, speed healing, reduce sick days, and improve cognitive function and productivity,” Benner explained.

The company has seen an increase in interest in the moss wall from senior living organizations, especially memory care communities.

“I strongly believe the multi-sensory stimulation offered by the Verdure Wellness Wall is going to have a big impact upon seniors who no longer have regular access to the outdoors/biophilia. We already know the mist and moss can make a big difference with indoor air quality. We believe further studies will show significant physical and psychological health benefits to having a live moss wall indoors,” Benner added.

The standard 4′ x 8′  solid stainless steel Wellness Wall units come fully assembled and are easily set up within about an hour. Maintenance is minimal—just keep the 30-gallon water basin at the bottom periodically topped off with water. Multiple units can be seamlessly joined to create larger walls.

The company offers a no money down, zero percent interest finance option over three years. The mosswalls.com website features more information and a video.
