New Senior Living Community In Golden, CO, To Include Amenities That Encourage More, Longer Visits

July 12, 2016

DENVER–OZ Architecture, an award-winning, national architecture and design firm, has been selected by Rocky Mountain Senior Housing to lead design services for its new 89,000 square foot senior living community in Golden, Colo., which will include amenities aimed at encouraging visitors of all ages to come more often and stay longer.

Studies show that isolation in seniors is tied to diminished health, depression and cognitive decline and that visits from loved ones play a key role in residents' happiness and sense of well-being. To that end, OZ Architecture's plans for Golden Lodge Assisted Living incorporate gathering places for multigenerational friends and family. Spaces will be devoted to visitors of varying ages, including a video game lounge for teens and a play room for younger children. The community will also feature a bistro and wine bar that will create a relaxed, adults-only social area for both guests and residents to enjoy.

Golden Lodge will be configured into two facilities – a 65,000 square foot, four-story, assisted living community with 75 studio and one bedroom units; and a 24,000 square foot, single-story memory care community with 36 studio units. Exterior finishes will be reminiscent of a mountain lodge in keeping with the atmosphere of the foothills of Golden. Finishes will include stone, pitched roofs, mountain log accents and traditional lap siding. Landscaped outdoor areas will be designed to encourage taking walks and offer scenic views of North Table Mountain and the city of Golden. A four season greenhouse will allow residents to grow their own fresh vegetables and fruit and take part in hobby gardening.

Jami Mohlenkamp, principal at OZ Architecture and head of the firm's Senior Living practice, said, "In addition to creating a community that elevates the daily living experience of residents, one of our goals with the design of Golden Lodge was to help guests have an enjoyable time there, thereby promoting frequent and lengthier visits with loved ones, which ultimately benefits residents."

Golden Lodge Assisted Living will be operated by Vivage Senior Living, a Colorado-based company with a national presence in senior living and specialized senior healthcare services. Construction is expected to start in the fourth quarter of 2016, with projected completion in the fall of 2017.
