Presbyterian Homes of Georgia Breaks Ground on Multimillion-Dollar Senior Living Development

September 10, 2018

ATHENS, GA–Presbyterian Homes of Georgia is bringing a new senior living option to the Athens area. On Friday, September 21, at 10 a.m., more than 300 future residents, staff and local dignitaries will celebrate the groundbreaking of Presbyterian Village Athens. It will be the area’s first premier Life Plan Community offering various independent living home options and lifestyle amenities, plus a full continuum of health care services—including Assisted Living, Memory Support, Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation on one campus.

“We’re proud to bring this incredible new lifestyle option to seniors in the Athens area that not only celebrates their social energy, but also their intellectual spirit, all in a beautiful and engaging atmosphere,” said Alex Patterson, vice president of Presbyterian Homes of Georgia, Inc. “This new community represents our commitment to providing the best care and living options for seniors in Athens and beyond.”

According to a recent report by the U.S. Census Bureau, more than 15 percent of the Oconee County population has already reached age 65 and older, a number that will continue to climb as the baby boomers age. This project will provide more options and amenities, as well as meet the changing desires of the newest generation of seniors.

Presbyterian Village Athens will be located on 70 acres at 8021 Macon Highway near the intersection of Highway 441 and Hog Mountain Road. It will consist of 107 cottages, 22 villas and 100 apartment homes when all phases are complete. The community will offer a number of amenities that will be available to residents, including walking trails, a fitness center, tennis and pickleball courts, an indoor saltwater pool, pub and billiards room, hair salon, and multiple dining venues.

“Presbyterian Homes of Georgia is committed to strong resident programming to enhance residents’ lifestyles, including an environment that supports intergenerational programming,” said President and CEO Frank McElroy Jr. “We look forward to this new community carrying on the tradition of other successful communities throughout Georgia. It’s an exciting time for our organization to grow our mission, serve more seniors, and help provide them and their families a secure future.”

Augusta-based RW Allen Construction has been selected as the builder for the project. Construction of the community is expected to be completed in 2021.
