Silver Birch Of Hammond Affordable Assisted Lifestyle Community Opens Doors

May 26, 2017

Silver Birch of Hammond, a new assisted lifestyle community, has welcomed its first residents.

The community, which is located on more than four acres of land at 5620 Sohl Avenue in Hammond, serves older adults who need some help to maintain their independence.

The 103,000 square-foot building includes 125 studio and one-bedroom apartments. Each of the private apartments at Silver Birch features a kitchenette, spacious bathroom with shower and grab bars, individually-controlled heating and air conditioning units, and an emergency alert system.

In addition, the four-story property has a large community room, a private dining room, café, beauty salon, and activity, game, art and exercise rooms.

Certified nursing assistants, working under the direction of a licensed nurse, are on-duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The community is managed by Gardant Management Solutions. It further expands Gardant’s mission of providing residents with the love, compassion and dignity they deserve in addition to the help with medications and personal assistance they need, says Rod Burkett, CEO of Gardant.

Worn Jerabek Wiltse Architects, P.C. designed the community, and construction of the $12.4 million project was completed by Indianapolis-based TWG. The ownership and development team includes Vermilion Development, The Laubacher Company and Affordable Housing Partners.

When fully occupied, the community will provide nearly 60 full-time and part-time jobs. Annual payroll with benefits is projected to be $1.8 million.

Gardant Management Solutions ranks as the 12th largest provider in the country.

The company recently expanded its portfolio, adding Oasis at 30th in Indianapolis. Several other projects, including Belvedere Senior Housing in Merrillville and other Silver Birch properties in Kokomo, Muncie and Michigan City, are currently in the development or construction stages.
