Simpson House Announces New Senior Living Apartments In Philadephia

January 30, 2017

Simpson House, Philadelphia’s oldest senior living community, announced today the groundbreaking of The Cornerstone with 37 new apartments for seniors in West, Philadelphia.

Simpson House is a senior living community that includes independent living, personal care, rehabilitation and skilled nursing services for seniors in the Philadelphia Metropolitan area. Located on Belmont Avenue across from Fairmount Park in the city’s west side, Simpson House has been a historical part of Philadelphia for more than 150 years. The new Cornerstone apartments will be built on the site of the previous Bennett building that will be demolished in January 2017. The Cornerstone will include one- and two-bedroom state-of-the-art apartments and amenities which will include a new restaurant-style dining bistro, fitness center and living spaces. The Cornerstone expansion is anticipated to be completed in fall 2017.

In addition to the new Cornerstone apartments, Simpson House has undergone extensive renovations as part of a 10-phase project, which includes a totally new short-term rehabilitation area with a modern bistro for restaurant-style dining, multi-purpose and living areas with fireplaces, and 14 private and three semi-private short-term rooms. This specialty area is designed for residents in recovery from surgery or illness and includes physical, occupational and language therapy.

“This is a fresh approach to a community that’s been part of the fabric of Philadelphia for a long time. Recognizing the beauty of the historic building, we’ve been careful to preserve what we all love about Simpson House with what Philadelphia’s seniors need — that is — modern, high-quality amenities, the latest equipment to help our residents reach their maximum mobility, [and] comfortable and superior surroundings,” said Richard Coyle, Executive Director of Simpson House.

“In addition, our same, exceptional staff is here to serve the residents and provide the care and services they need. We are proud of our clinical team and its resident focus The ‘new’ Simpson House will only contribute to the continued high standard of care provided to our residents daily,” Coyle continued.

The Cornerstone building is designed for seniors who appreciate urban-style living but do not want the burden of home ownership, home maintenance, numerous bills and safety concerns. As part of Simpson House, The Cornerstone provides independent living apartments but with access to rehabilitation or other healthcare services should the need ever arise.

“One of the values of living at Simpson House will be the ability to go visit family, friends or travel without worry about your home,” said Heather Virgulti, Marketing Director and Senior Living Counselor. “And then we have ample parking and are located close to the bus line for the residents who want to take advantage of all that Philadelphia has to offer – museums, theatre, dining and shopping.”

“The new Cornerstone addition with all of the renovations that are taking place throughout the community is very exciting,” said Coyle. “We are looking forward to serving more generations of Philadelphians in our beautiful new community.”
