Wellesley Resident Tom Masiello Receives Benchmark’s Annual Darrell Harvey Values Award

April 17, 2019

WALTHAM, MA–Benchmark, a human connection company and leading provider of senior living services in the Northeast, today announced that Thomas Masiello, vice president of enterprise risk management, has received the Benchmark Darrell Harvey Values Award for 2018.

At Benchmark’s 17th Annual Awards Gala held on March 28, 2019, Masiello was selected out of all the company’s 6,400 associates for not only setting a high bar for the company’s values but also raising it. The award is named for long-time investor and member of Benchmark’s board of advisors, Darrell Harvey of Stamford, CT, who was the award’s first recipient in 2017.

Throughout Masiello’s six-year tenure at Benchmark, he has used his skill set, training, positivity and respect to help every area of Benchmark operate better.  “I’m honored to be part of a talented team of people who care deeply about understanding others,” said Masiello. “The work our associates do is very special – making powerful connections with residents and their families and improving their lives at a time when they’re often most vulnerable.”

Masiello came to Benchmark in 2013 to experience greater purpose and fulfillment in his work. He had a 20-year career as the director of risk management for Cumberland Farms/Gulf Oil, served as litigation counsel and risk manager for HUD at the Boston Housing Authority, and was in house counsel for American International Group. He lives in Wellesley, MA, with his wife and two sons.

“I am so grateful for the work that Tom and his team do every single day to elevate human connection,” said Tom Grape, founder, chairman and CEO of Benchmark. “Our annual awards gala is the highlight of my year because it’s an opportunity for all of us to come together to celebrate our communities and associates who sincerely live our company mission, vision and values. This year’s award winners are truly exemplary, and I could not be prouder of all we have accomplished together.”

Based in Waltham, Benchmark is a leading provider of senior housing in the Northeast, with 58 communities offering independent living, assisted living, Alzheimer’s care and skilled nursing in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont.

The organization was selected by FORTUNE magazine for its inaugural 2018 Best Workplaces for Aging Services list, taking the number 16 spot on the list of top 40 aging services companies and ranking number three among companies with more than 40 communities. Benchmark is one of only six companies named to The Boston Globe Top Places to Work list every year of the 11 years it has been published. And it has been consistently recognized by Boston Business Journal, Hartford Courant and Hartford Business Journal as a top workplace, and by the Boston Business Journal, Providence Business News and Hartford Business Journal as one of the healthiest employers.
