Willow Valley Communities Partners with YWCA for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

January 20, 2020

LANCASTER, PA–Willow Valley Communities, a premier 55 plus senior living community in Lancaster, is partnering with the YWCA Lancaster to host a celebration for children honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. today on Martin Luther King Day.

The no-cost event is being held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is open to all children up to age 12. Children are participating in activities related to peace, diversity, and the life of Dr. King. They will also hear excerpts from his famous speeches.

Each hour during the event, a book about Dr. King will be read to children, who are grouped by age. Each registered child will receive his or her own copy of the book used for their reading. Willow Valley Communities provided all of the books for the event.

A Willow Valley Communities resident kicked off the readings with two books: “I Am Brave. A Little Book About Martin Luther King, Jr.” by Brad Meltzer and “We March” by Shane W. Evans.

“Willow Valley Communities’ residents regularly tutor students throughout the School District of Lancaster. I’m delighted that they are sharing their love for reading with children at this inspirational event,” said John G. Swanson, CEO of Willow Valley Living, the management company for Willow Valley Communities.

Willow Valley Communities was founded in 1984. An award winning, not-for-profit, independently operated continuing care retirement community (CCRC), it is nationally recognized as a senior living destination for residents from 37 states.
