Drake Terrace Recognized for LGBTQ+ Senior Care

September 4, 2024

SAN RAFAEL, CA — Drake Terrace, a Kisco Senior Living community roughly 12 miles north of San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge, has announced in a press release its recognition as a 2024 SAGECare Platinum Credentialed Provider. This accolade highlights Drake Terrace’s commitment to provide exceptional care and support for the senior LGBTQ+ community.

By completing the requisite amount of LGBTQ+ aging training, Drake Terrace joins an elite group of senior-living communities in California and it stands as the only community in Marin County to earn this credential.

“We are incredibly proud of our wonderful staff who go above and beyond for our residents every day,” said Drake Terrace Executive Director Shawn Mooney. “They recognized the value in this training and are committed to providing the highest quality of care to our residents. Already, we can see the positive impact this training has had on our community. We pride ourselves on creating a space where everyone feels comfortable, cared for and valued.”

SAGECare, a provider of LGBTQ+ aging cultural competency training, educates and guides organizations to better serve LGBTQ+ older adults. To earn the SAGECare Credential, a minimum of 80 percent of Drake Terrace’s management and non-management staff completed training in LGBTQ+ aging cultural competency. This program included education on the unique needs and concerns of LGBTQ+ older adults, ensuring that staff are well-equipped to provide inclusive and respectful care.

“We are thrilled about what this achievement means for the Marin community and Drake Terrace residents,” said Kisco’s Art of Living Well assistant Audrey Temple, who spearheaded the project. “We are proud to be recognized as a SAGECare Platinum Credentialed Provider and remain committed to serving the senior community and improving the quality of life for our residents.”

Drake Terrace spent a year working with the Spahr Center, the sole resource for such training in Marin County, to earn this credential. Although the Spahr Center recently closed, Drake Terrace continues to partner with its former leaders to support LGBTQ+ inclusivity through ongoing educational programs, lectures, and events for LGBTQ adults. As the first Kisco community to receive this certification, Drake Terrace is setting a precedent for others to follow.

Drake Terrace offers IL and AL options for senior adults. Tucked in the hills of Marin County near beautiful open space preserves and parks, it is a warm and friendly community with an intimate village feeling. As a Kisco Senior Living Community, Drake Terrace is an example of Kisco’s Art of Living Well philosophy, which allows seniors and their families living nearby to thrive as a family in their own neighborhood. Drake Terrace is a place where people can share passions, live in balance, and build a lasting legacy.
