Harbor’s Edge Names New Executive Chef

January 28, 2019

NORFOLK, VAEuropean-trained chef Beat Meier is bringing his culinary expertise to Harbor’s Edge, a True LifeCare community in Norfolk. Meier, who formally takes control of all dining venues at Harbor’s Edge next week, has more than 30 years of culinary experience, including 12 years as the executive chef of The Country Club of Virginia in Richmond, VA, and most recently as a consultant, interim executive chef and owner of Euro Interim Chef Inc.

In his new position, Meier will oversee the dining staff, plan menus, and ensure residents have healthy and nutritious choices, while bringing vibrancy and creativity to the menu.

“I’m eager to start my new role at Harbor’s Edge,” said Meier. “After recent years of travel for my career, I’m happy to be in my home state again, preparing my favorite local dishes while getting to know the residents and staff.”

Harbor’s Edge welcomes Meier’s expertise, as today’s seniors’ dining expectations include a more resort-like experience, variety of choices and experienced chefs.

Meier graduated with honors from a cook apprenticeship in Switzerland. He went on to become the executive chef in multiple country clubs throughout his career.

“Harbor’s Edge already has a phenomenal, upscale dining experience,” said Meier. “I want to build on what they already offer, enhance experience, and create a great culture for the staff to thrive in.”

Meier plans to create new menu options for residents, and to add more diversity to meals. He’ll also incorporate unique specials, including international and ethnic flavors learned from his world travels.

Meier’s addition coincides with the community breaking ground next month on a $200 million River Tower expansion that will add 147 apartment homes to meet high demand. The new River Tower expansion features unrivaled views of downtown Norfolk and the Hampton Roads Harbor.
