SOUTH SETAUKET, NYJefferson’s Ferry, a not-for-profit Life Plan Community, has partnered with the NorthShore Career Training Institute’s Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Program to provide the supervised, practical work experience that is required for the CNA students. The students have been working alongside experienced CNAs in the delivery of daily services to Jefferson’s Ferry skilled nursing residents under the supervision and direction of Jefferson’s Ferry’s Director of Nursing Richelle Rugulo, R.N. and NorthShore instructor Frances Maro, R.N.

“We’re very pleased to be able to partner with NorthShore Career Training Institute with an internship program that provides clear advantages for everyone involved,” said Robert E. Caulfield, president and CEO of Jefferson’s Ferry. “The student interns gain the hands on experience that is required for their certification while learning about the delivery of exceptional care.  Our residents benefit from the extra attention they receive and we will also be able to identify quality applicants for future open positions at Jefferson’s Ferry.”

The inaugural class of the CNA Internship Program arrived at Jefferson’s Ferry in October 2017 to complete their clinical experience, and every 6-8 weeks a new group arrives. “The interns are trained on Jefferson’s Ferry’s expectations of delivering exceptional standards in care and service to our residents,” said Anthony Comerford, vice president of health services at Jefferson’s Ferry. “We are thrilled with their enthusiasm and energy and the opportunity to give them the valuable experience that helps complete their training.”
