Leisure Care to Open Company’s First Senior Living Community in Maryland

August 10, 2018

SEATTLE–Leisure Care, one of the most innovative operators of senior living communities in the country, is introducing its first community in Maryland. Scheduled to open this winter, The Landing of Silver Spring will include 138 total units: 59 memory care and 79 assisted living.

“The range and quality of services that will be offered is unrivaled in this area,” said Ryan Rasar, COO at Leisure Care. “We’re thrilled to continue Leisure Care’s expansion on the East Coast and bring our signature services to the new residents of The Landing of Silver Spring.”

The Landing of Silver Spring offers assisted living and memory care services to meet a wide range of senior needs—providing customized care for each resident and access to the community’s innovative amenities.

Community amenities include:

  • Leisure Care’s PrimeFit Fitness, Balance Builders and wellness programs
  • Onsite physical and occupational therapy
  • Brain fitness program by Posit Science and Language Learningprogram powered by Rosetta Stone®
  • Travel by Leisure Care, the company’s distinctive travel agency
  • Opal, Leisure Care’s signature memory care program
  • Full-service dining with healthy, seasonal options, as well as a bistro and hospitality bar
  • Regularly scheduled transportation
  • A calendar of fun, innovative and engaging programs, events and activities

The Landing of Silver Spring will be managed by Connie Miller, an experienced hospitality and senior living executive with a long-standing passion for helping others as they age.

“I want to retire here many years down the road after having done something great for seniors on the East Coast,” said Miller, who joined Leisure Care earlier this year. “I’m thrilled to open this new community and do something that I truly love and believe in.”

For Miller, one of the most important aspects of working at a senior living community is capturing the stories and knowledge of the residents. During her previous roles managing communities, Miller organized gatherings for seniors to come and share their stories, which she then collected and turned into a coffee table book for families to enjoy.

“I’m looking forward to learning about our new residents and introducing a similar concept at The Landing of Silver Spring,” Miller added.

Located just 15 miles north of Washington, D.C., the Landing of Silver Spring offers a unique combination of urban living and small-town charm. Residents will have access to shopping centers, restaurants, medical facilities, churches and a Washington Metropolitan Transit Authority (WMTA) stop, all within minutes of the community.

In addition to the wide array of services the community offers, the Landing of Silver Spring is conveniently located near the Margaret Schweinhaut Senior Center, which offers additional programs and activities for local seniors.

Miller says the abundance of amenities and nearby services are some of her favorite aspects of the new community.

“We’ll be offering a different type of assisted living,” she says. “We’re going to make it home.”
