Presbyterian Senior Living Appoints New Chief Executive Officer

DILLSBURG, PA–The Board of Trustees for Presbyterian Senior Living (PSL), a leading not-for-profit provider of senior living and care services, has elected James (Jim) Bernardo as its new President and CEO. Bernardo has served as acting CEO since June 2019 upon the retirement of Stephen Proctor, and has more than 40 years of senior living operations and leadership experience, 32 years of those with PSL.
“I have been honored to serve the mission, residents, and staff of Presbyterian Senior Living in a variety of leadership roles and I am excited about the future of our organization,” said Bernardo. “As CEO I look forward to collaborating with our leadership team to continue to provide visionary and innovative services and communities to support and grow the mission of PSL.”
Prior to this role, Bernardo served as the organization’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, working his way up through the organization. Bernardo begin his career with PSL as Executive Director for Westminster Village in Allentown, PA, and Kirkland Village in Bethlehem, PA.

In addition to his executive role, Bernardo is currently a surveyor for the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) International, the independent, nonprofit accreditor of health and human services. He is also a past member of the LeadingAge (formerly AAHSA) Board of Directors as well as treasurer and chair of its New Membership Task Force. Bernardo is also a former Board Chairman of LeadingAge PA. Bringing his industry experience and expertise, Bernardo is also a frequent presenter of educational programs around aging service program design and delivery. He previously served on additional community agency boards, including the Advisory Council for the Berks County Area Agency on Aging and the Board of Directors for the Lehigh Valley Visiting Nurse Association.
Bernardo received a Bachelor of Arts in social work from LaSalle University and a Master of Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh. He currently resides in Sinking Spring, PA, with his wife Theresa.
