September 27, 2018

MCLEAN, VA– Great Place to Work® and Fortune have recognized Sunrise Senior Living as one of the top 10 Best Workplaces for Aging Services in 2018, the first year the list has been released. Surveys representing more than 162,000 employees from companies in the Aging Services industry were considered to develop the list. Sunrise achieved No. 7, and a new article in Fortune magazine features the Company’s mission-rich culture and team member engagement efforts as reasons for the high ranking.

Great Place to Work®, a global people analytics and consulting firm, evaluated more than 50 elements of team members’ experience on the job. These included the extent to which team members trust their leaders, the respect with which people are treated, the fairness of workplace decisions, and how much camaraderie there is among the team.

“I could not be more proud for this third party recognition of our more than 25,000 U.S. team members, whose dedication shows by their daily efforts to provide families with the very best in personalized care,” said Chris Winkle, chief executive officer for Sunrise. “We are fully invested in preserving Sunrise’s rich culture, as well as offering new opportunities for team members to succeed and fulfill their personal goals. This achievement reflects the deep bond among team members in support of our ever-lasting mission to champion quality of life for all seniors, that began more than 35 years ago,” he added.

Overall, results from the survey revealed that Sunrise team members enjoy a challenging yet positive atmosphere in their workplace, with effective communication and a steadfast trust in leadership. Team members also expressed widespread pride in what they do on a day-to-day basis, with 90 percent of respondents indicating that their job has special meaning.

“As much as we are obsessed with creating the best possible experience for our customers, we are equally focused on helping to ensure that Sunrise is a rewarding place to work for all our team members,” said Mike Rodis, senior vice president of Human Resources for Sunrise. “We strive to foster an environment where team members learn, grow, and feel that their work matters. Through comprehensive benefits, structured career development, and programs like The Sunrise Good Samaritan Fund, which helps Sunrise team members suffering hardship following a catastrophic event such as a hurricane, we make a point to support and celebrate our team members each and every day.”

“The aging services industry is rapidly growing and with aging Baby Boomers, consumer preferences are changing even more dramatically. Companies need to adapt their organizations and offerings to remain competitive,” said Michael Bush, CEO of Great Place to Work®. “Organizations like Sunrise Senior Living stand out from the crowd, intentionally growing their businesses by creating great places to work.”
